Fourth Year Star Secures 224 Million Deal

Karl-Anthony Towns Signs Max Extension with Timberwolves

Fourth-Year Star Secures $224 Million Deal

Towns, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, has signed a four-year, $224 million extension with the Minnesota Timberwolves, his agent Jessica Holtz of Excel Sports Management announced. The contract includes a player option and makes Towns the highest-paid player in the league on a per-year basis.

Towns' new deal will pay him $56 million in 2022-23, $58.1 million in 2023-24, $60.3 million in 2024-25, and $62.4 million in 2025-26. The extension will see Towns' salary increase by 645 percent, making him the highest-paid player in the league on a per-year basis.

The Timberwolves have been working to extend Towns for months, and the deal was finally agreed upon on Thursday. The extension keeps Towns in Minnesota through the 2025-26 season, which is the longest contract extension that can be given to a player under the NBA's collective bargaining agreement.

Towns is a three-time All-Star and has been one of the most productive players in the NBA since entering the league in 2015. He has averaged 24.6 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game for his career. Towns is also a versatile defender who can guard multiple positions.

The Timberwolves are hoping that Towns can lead them to their first NBA title since 1954. The team has not made the playoffs since 2018, but Towns is one of the best young players in the league and is capable of carrying a team to the next level.
