Portugal made a bright start to the game and had the first chance when Bernardo Silva fired wide from inside the area. France grew into the game as the half wore on and had a good chance to take the lead when Kylian Mbappé's shot was saved by Rui Patrício. The second half was a more even affair, with both teams having chances to win the game. France had the best chance when Karim Benzema's shot hit the crossbar.

The game went to extra time and Portugal had the better chances, with Cristiano Ronaldo going close on a couple of occasions. However, France held on and the game went to a penalty shootout. France won the shootout 5-3, with Kingsley Coman scoring the winning penalty.
